Got up at 5:30 am this morning and got the gear ready to rock and roll.Headed down to the North pier, was a guy fishing near the drum end, he said he had been down since before 5am and hadn'nt had a sniff.
I setup on the Drum and decided to fish towards the south pier, nothing for the first 5 mins then got a canny knock, but then nowt.
I baited back up and cast to the same place, another good knock this time managed to hook a whiting just under 1lb, every cast was getting some great knocks, but just couldnt hook up, then i got a hell of a crack and a slack liner, i jumped up thinking cod when i struck it felt like a codling, but was just another whiting, but when i put it on me digi scales it weighed in at 1lb and a quarter so was a nice one. The wife would of killed me had i put them back as ive spent a fortune on bait recently, so i decided as they were decent size to take them up for her.
Everything went quiet, then the crabs came out to play so i decided to pack up and head home around 10 am.
Baits used were runnydown, squid and rag cocktails and all fish were taken before the sun come up.
