With the Seaham comp being off my mate Chut sent me a message to say lads were having a mini comp down at Hendon Prom. 1pm until 6pm. Got down armed with 3 packs of frozen blacks and a bag of three bluey from the freezer.
Five of us fishing. Tried holding bottom at Hendon but just to much movement so we decided to try somewhere sheltered and opted for the beach at Roker. Ten mins later and we set up again.
Hard work with the breakers but bearable and holding bottom. Chut was first to catch a fish on frozen crab and blacks. 3lb 10 oz.
We all thought the £5 a man prize was going to Chut but with ten mins to go. I had a good knock on my 15ft Salt rod and Penn 8000 reel which had 50 lb braid on-and I was rewarded with this fella.
4lb 7 oz. Over the moon to get a decent Codling and thanks to Chut for his choosing the location.
A good night and with the sea away it should throw up some decent fish. I got mine on chunk of bluey with a black lug.

ps thanks to lads re advice of holding rod in big seas-much easier and canny for feeling bites. Next time out Wednesday.
