Fished Whitburn beach last night got there just before 9pm and it was like Blackpool illuminations but about 10pm everyone had left I had the beach to myself.First couple of casts dragging in loads of crap, first fish was about 2lb
caught 8 fish in total best was 8.75lbs another at 5.75lbs (didn't weight the rest) all caught on my Yuki rod If anyone is thinking about buying a Yuki rod I would say go for it, bought the rod to take to Fuerteventura had my doubts about using it here but in Fuerteventura I hooked into something massive it was just taking line off, had the rod stuck between my legs for 2 hours then I said **** or bust if I smash the rod I smash the rod so pumped this massive ray right up to the surface at the edge of the rocks (deep water) the local anglers estimated it to be 80-100lbs just had to cut the leader was using braid if it had been nylon I would have probably cut it an hour earlier, These Yuki rods have definitely got a purpose here especially on beaches and slightly mixed ground. Was thinking of treating myself to a Yuki for mixed to clean ground. Hows it cast?

Cracking job on the pro surf mate, I have a Taylor Q5 and it's by far my favourite rod, though I tend to jut use it for scratching about rather than cod so you're a braver man than me!! Must have been a hellish battle with the cod alone never mind the ray.
          Well done

The beach changes all the time when the sea gets away just go down at low tide and look for the black water that's the holes where hopefully the fish are

Mick I think I paid £260 or £270 a mate of mine introduced me to them he fishes a lot of matches and is a top class angler I was a bit dubious about it at first but after pumping that ray up I have no worries beaches and mixed ground they are great might have a go in the tyne some time as you can cast a long long way with them first time I used it here didn't have any four ounce weights and used 150 gram leads and it was ok but four ounce is about right fixed spool reel with power pro braid I think it is 66lb and fifty pound leader with four ounce weight and it casts a long way cheers Brian
