cresswell carrs last night

Well thought about blyth pier last night but seen all the lights and decided to try the carrs at cresswell got up there just as the tide was dropping away so was able to get straight on" the sea was well away but you always have a bit shelter on north corner on a southerly with the wind behind you .the spot looked perfect so got set up and for about an hour nothing then had a cracking nock so struck into it "this felt like a good fish plenty weight and bend in the rod was pumping like mad when cack snagged up and so close in so gave some line and hoped for the best but as usual stuck hard so one lost but the signs were good so got a bait out double quick but for some strange reason baits were coming back untouched anyway got down to slack still dead but about an hour into the flood got another cracking nock and this time pulled in a nice 2lb codling "really felt the cod were coming on but after about a hours flood its time to leave so lads not the qty of fish I hoped for but 1 saved the blank baits used blowlug blacks mussel squid razor and bluey

Must have been you just along from me. Well done on getting one out. Blanked for me, despite the squid, razor, yellow tails, frozen blacks. Spoke to a couple of lads on the private beach who blanked as well...

You must have got it just after I left - had a canny knock last cast on the Carrs but I'd had enough of the wind by then. Tried Seaham Hall on the way home - nee one else fishing and it was too big.

So an expensive trip up from Notts to catch bugger all for me

Aye it was just when you left m8 "it was really hard going like "was surprised there wasn't more fish it looked spot on" when its running the way it was theirs always a chance it will throw up a piggy but always next time

I fished the beach behind the ice-cream shop yesterday with my granddaughter, from 10:30 til 15:30. First cast had 2 codling, one was a tiddler but the other one was just over 2lb, the granddaughter also had a small codling one her first cast. This is how it went for the next couple of hours, with both of us bringing in small codling and flounders. It went dead as the tide came further up and the wind increased, but there was no problem with weed for a change. I ended up with 8 codling (1 keeper) and 2 flounders, the granddaughter finished with 5 codling, 1 whiting and 4 flounders. Bait used was just lugworm fished on a 2 hook flapper with size 1/0 long shank aberdeens. All fish were taken close in. Saw a few others fishing but don`t know how they got on

We started at low water to the left of the blocks just about in line with the northern edge of the rocks in front, and as the tide came up we moved round until we were right in front of the last blocks on the left. I quite often fish there as you are casting into a deep gulley and it usually fishes best when there`s a strong south-easterly like we had on Saturday. It`s also a good spot for bass in the summer months.

Is that turning to the left after you head down the steps behind the ice cream shop, along about 200 yards and then have the edge of the Carrs in front of you? When I came off the Carrs I thought about trying there but was too hacked off with the wind - what sort of shelter do you get from the sea state?

That`s pretty much spot on. If you get there for low water you will see the gulley at the back of the rocks. I usually cast to the left of the Carrs and as the tide starts coming in I move back up the beach and cast into the gulley and keep moving to the right, ending up by the large blocks. It is fairly sheltered from the larger rollers, which could be why the fish tend to gather there. I usually only fish here when the wind is south-easterly, preferring the more open stretches towards Druridge bay if the winds coming off the land. Hope this is of some help.

aye I know where you mean now theirs a very strong under current there when the tide rushes in" have also seen some decent bass caught there thanks for info m8
