  • Best this Season

Gary, Ronny & I fished Shields Hole in the Wall yesterday 2pm to 8.30pm. Bloody cold & really bad gusting Winds made life interesting.
With conditions as they have been for some time, the best we could have expected was small stuff and most of the catch was just that. Small Codling, Flatties & a few decent Whiting.
I had live Blacks which needed using and decided to fish a 2/0 Pennel Pully Rig in the faint hope something decent might turn up. Also had only taken the TTSMLD with me,so sure it would be small stuff about.

About 2 hours into the session my Rod pulled right down, a quick look to see it wasnt someone pulling me in & grabbed the Rod to feel something pulling back. What a tussle the bugger put up, all the time i was wishing i hadnt strapped on my Abu Reel.
Eventually got it in & gary managed to lift it for me. Get in, 6lb 12oz Cod and by far the best this season. Was lucky as one Hook had snapped & the other was just lipped.
Was so chuffed i even trecked back to the Car to get my Scales.
Just shows they can turn up when you least expect them to.

Got another about 1 1/2lb much later but that was it. Nothing reported off the end by the few that came off and nothing near us. At last the Blacks seemed to have done their job.

Uncomfortable session but in good company and a fair bit of sport, what more can you want eh.

    6lb 12oz Cod

    Gary with a decent Whiting.
