  • Advice on mag 525 2

Hello all I know this is not a catch report but I was just after a little advice on how to use the 525, I have only ever used a slosh 30 multiplier as I am fairly new to sea fishing and was wondering how to operate the mag system e.g first cast should I have the mag turned on full belt or do it gradually increase it cast after cast? Any advice would be greatly appreciated cheers lads.

My two stay with the mags on full all of the time. Maybe if I put some thicker oil in the bearings it would slow them down but they run fine as they are. I would put the mags on full at first if you are not sure how the bearings are set up.

              re mag

put mine on 2nd dot on the less side and use 3/1 oil and have no bother ,but suppose everyone will be diffrent its just a matter what you get use through time,as the lads say start half way then work your way to what you feel comfy with.

A lot will also depend on what sort of line you going to put on and how much - a brim-full spool of lighter line will require more braking than a less full spool of heavier. I used to find my (old) 525's were best suited to 18-20lb line (anywhere from 0.37-0.40mm diameter) & I liked them full but not over-filled and they ran safely in all conditions on just under half mags.

As others have said, I'd start with them pretty much on full and gradually back them off till you just get a hint of line-lift, then put them one notch up again (bear in mind you want to do this with baits on - if you set your reel up with just a plain lead, as soon as you add a couple of baits it's liable to blow up on you).
