  • Rathouse/hendon prom 23/10/13

Decided to go out fishing yesterday to try out my new abu. Got to the rathouse at about 3.30pm. First cast I managed a decent size whitie followed by another one the next cast. Thought it was going to be a good day but it seemed to go quiet after that so I decided to give hendon prom ago over high water. I got down there at 5.30, it was very slow it took me until 8.30 to get one small flattie before I decided to call it a day. The whiting were caught on mackeral and the flattie on rag. It was pretty packed down the rathouse and some chinese people next to me were catching a few but they were keeping every fish they caught even the ones that were only 4 inches and clearly undersize! There was a some people down trying to explain to them to put a fish back because it wasn't big enough and you can get into trouble for taking undersize fish but the chinese man just waited until he wasnt looking and put it in his carrier bag! I think this outrageous as these fish are our future stocks we will have nothing left if people like that keep taking more than they need and undersize fish rant over lol. Anyways an enjoyable day and the new reel is great not one birdie in sight

I've heard about "Chinese" ( could be any "East Asian" I suppose) and Polish blokes fishing at Torness, with newspaper delivery bags over their shoulders. Apparently, anything they catch goes in the bag.

I understand the nickname is: "paper boys"

I don't suppose there's anything that can be done, to stop this going on?

Well done on the fish anyway

Yeah these were possibly east asin as well it's such a shame we have the polish taking carp that cost thousands from ponds then these taking our sea fish. If we did it in there country we would be locked up!

Its the same all over lads, I had a weeks fishing on the Inverness coastline couple of years ago. Two polish lads taking everything, size or not! The local boys were well sick of it too.. Its so frustrating to watch happen + have no power to stop it!

Yep the paperboys are regularly at torness, mind you they don't get half as many fish as the local boy with his gill net, it was full of mullet and bass last time i was there, the guy just jumps in the water in his wetsuit and empties it.

What do they do with them??

Nice catch, however the issue of undersize fish really does get me fuming.

Up in SW Scotland this year fishin for macky off the pier - LOADS of mackerel this year there was, but up in SW Scotland for whatever reason they are loads smaller than here.
There was so many we only fished the pier 10 minutes, had plenty for the whole trip, pulling up 3s, 4s all the time - I even pulled up and landed 5 which I felt guilty pride in doing

Chinese/Asian??? gentlemen on the pier must have been there a good few hours, no exaggeration they had hundreds and I mean hundreds of macky in huge thick plastic cases....god knows what they were doing with them. The local fisherman around Loch Ryan take no prisoners and were having a right go, but they just did not care/pretend not to speak English.
Some of the macky there are no bigger than 6 inches, I do wonder what goes on.

It makes me fuming to hear all of these stories and your right it is frustrating to know that we a powerless to stop them taking the fish. I suppose it's just one of them things we have to fish alongside and have to put up with. It's not just out thinking fish anymore but trying to catch them and put them back before they spot them!!
