I was out in the same area last night, I had a few chucks on the boat station and then one on the new prom. On the way home I had a look over the top at Middle Goats behind the Queens pub just before high water . The Police were there looking for a kid suspected of attempting to break into cars, the officer spoke to me about it. Funny thing is earlier whilst I was along the new prom, a kid on a mountain bike peddled past my car I shone my light on him and he continued on, I thought nothing of it.

After reading your post it looks like they are on the prowl around the Whitley area, as you say they spot your light by the water and know you cannot get back to stop them. Its a Very worrying situation and is not a new one, a good few years back I heard of similar attempts on anglers cars and even on tackle boxes whilst fishing a distance away from them. There,s nothing worse than looking over your shoulder whilst your trying to fish. The worst thing about this is I was out from 8 pm to 11 pm and you were out at 2 am so who ever they are, its not just a spur of the moment opportunist attempt on a random parked car, they have been prowling the coast looking for a soft touch.

I know it's not as bad as your car, or the valuables inside getting nicked, but I was on whitley beach one night fishing a comp, and some git lifted me bucket of crab off me basket while I had me back turned fishing. had to pack up and go home
