    drop nets

I have pondered wether to get one of these or not. I,ve no doubt if the guy had one the fish would in the fridge now.
I suppose its more stuff to carry.
There is an old boy gets on the heugh who fishes regular carrys a home made one (like the bottom of a lobster pot)on a length of rope.
    Just in case i suppose.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

It is very easy to put someone down for something.

HARRA you are obviously an experienced fisherman. You would never do anything as stupid as that.

I remember a few years ago when all of my hook lengths were 15lb. A hell of a lot of people fished like that.

If you hunt around I am sure you will find that out mate.

But to call someone you don't know stupid is not very nice mate.

        Jim.

I use 30lb (Amnesia) snoods, helps drag the fish out of any snags. I got a Codling up at Howick earlier this year and it snagged 3 or 4 times on the retrieve. Because I had 30lb hook length the fish stayed on and was landed. I could tell that the fish had caused the snagging as its eye had gone missing and it was freshly grazed down its flank!

Another example of using strong hook lengths would be lifting a fish. Although the line states 15lb - when youve a fish thrashing about up the side of a pier or in strong seas a much smaller fish will be exert more than 15lb of weight on the line!

Suppose its like using shock leaders! The lead only weighs 6oz but the force exerted on the line when casting is quite a bit more.

                    Cheers

                    Steve

Nee bother Paul. I use a 60-80lb Trace body with a 30lb hook snood now, that said it is very rare I fish from high marks. If I did I would probably use the same as you do mate.

I really felt for the fella, there was a canny swell coming in and he done well just to get it round the start of the wheel cos it was gettin bashed of the wall. He was so calm when he lost it aswell, if that had been me i would have lost the plot, i would probably blubbed like a baby, fished all season just for the chance to hook a fish like that never mind get one in that close!
