Me and Mick65 finally got to fish Roker last night after bending the councils lugs all day about how they should open the pier.
Got down about 5.30 and didn't expect much as it was the last of the ebb - we were right! A codling of about 3lb came out just on Low water, but apart from the odd whiting, it was very quiet.
A couple of hours into the flood and Andy Rutherford gets one about between 4-5 pounds. About 20 minutes later, I get a lovely slackliner which results in this fish - about 5-8-0
Mick65 was doing a grand job for me during this time by keeping the whities interested - cheers Mick
Half an hour later, I got another good bite, and struck into a good fish. After coaxing it to the side, we could see it was a good fish. Andy dropped his dropnet, so we tried to get it in. As we tried, the top hook of my pennel caught on the netting on the drop net, so we had to take it to the steps. As we tried to lift it, it was gone It looked about 10lb - the 2nd double I've lost on there.
We fished on, Andy got another about 2lb, I got one about 1-4-0 which I returned, and mick got one just over the pound mark - also returned, to go on top of his whities
A canny session, considering the tides were tiny, although for the number of rods out (It was packed early on) the number of codling caught was woeful.
Best laugh of the night though was the bloke who cast out, his rod hit the railing on his follow through, so he decided to let go of it Over the side it went. I dont know how, but it the rod floated - with an Abu 7000 on it, so he luckily got it back.
One more thing. Why do people use big 6ft rod rests on the round head 2 of them on last night (one of them was the rod thrower)
