  • Coddling and A Tadpole Fish From Hartley

Me and my son Mark fished the Crescent Skeer and Hartley Island for a couple of hours tonight. As usual he pulled the fish out while I tried to keep up. Starting at the Crescent Skeer, we had a bite a cast from small coddling of just either side of a pound.

Once the tide dropped enough we moved to Hartley Island where he pulled out a few more codling followed by a tadpole fish of about 12oz. It’s the first one I’ve seen in over 30 years of fishing so I took a few pics which I’ll try to get off my phone later.

All the fish came to peeler and lug with many more missed bites. We could have had a higher sucess rate with smaller hooks but didn't want to step down as all the fish went back anyway.

So pleased I've just seen this post!! Fished Hartley island last night and my best fish was the strangest fish I've ever seen and I had no idea what it was till now!! :-) just googled it and sure enough it is the same fish I caught. I weighed in a codling over a pound but this fish was much heavier.
