  • The Heugh today.18th Sept.

Me & Glen had a few hours on the Heugh this afternoon. Sea was flat but with a big Tide we expected a few Flatties at least.

We werent dissapointed, it wasnt hectic, but we must have had 20/30 Fish between us. The majority being Dabs with the odd small Codling & Whiting thrown in for good measure.
The only bait they were interested in was Frozen Black Lug.
I struggled with Fresh Peeler, Rag, Lug, Squid & Mackie and it wasnt until i started using some of Glens old stinky Blacks that i started to get real interest.
After that it was mostly double shots.

Very Windy at times and a couple of downpours but a very enjoyable session even so.

Couple of shots. The Pier is in a very bad state now. A really bad storm will have the end off it no doubt.

Nice photo's Bob and a productive afternoon. It shows how many years it is since I fished the old girl, my memories are of a fence on the end that you could rest your rod against...

About 30ft washed away many years ago Stewart. Its quite dangerous in the dark now. Lots of cracks & Holes & when the Sea is big you can hear the water passing through the structure.

nice couple of hours out Bob.

we keep saying it will only stand one more good sea.

but..... we said that 35 years ago and in all that time its only lost 3 rows of blocks at around 15ft from the end.

it looks bad but will last a lot more years yet.

Sure hope so Bill, if it loses more off the end I wont be able to cast over the Rubble m8.

Thanks for report Bob. Since the old fella passed away seem to be heading more to South Shields area. Mind still love the old girl and will be back for a winter sesh or two. Just no more fish and chips for me and the the old fella before I drop him off at the old folks home and come back via nets to the headland.

the heugh is still one of the most productive piers along our coast but it is looking a bit dilapidated now, got my first decent cod off the end when I was a kid, 3 and half pounder.
