  • Shields pier Saturday night session

Arrived at the top of the pier sweating like a pig after the long walk from the metro station and found myself fitting in nicely on the brass ball. Jimmy and davey were already on as we're too boy and mad rob. Nice to meet you boys.
Set up using fresh blacks and mussel and I was straight into a nice sized whiting and ended up giving it to jimmy for his dad as it was actually gut hooked and would never have went back. Second cast went out and within 10 mins I had another nibble but never came to anything so it was left, another 10 minutes later and time to re-bait only to find a heavy weight on the end. What came over the wall was to my amazement. A lovely fat Dover sole. I was over te moon with that. I've never seen one before and to have two caught the same night was great. Next cast saw me land a small but sized dab which went back alive and well.
Top of the tide arrived and everything went slow as nobody was catching. It was another hour before I had any more action, I then landed another big whitey which again went to jimmy. Then arrives the few codling I landed 1 at 36cm and also went back alive. It came to 4oclock and davey and jimmy went home and I was alone on the pier the wind turned up but didn't spoil the fishing. I landed another 2 whiting and another 2 codling 1 at 37cm and another at 34 all the fish back alive. Left the pier at 6am for the long journey home pleased with my session. Sorry camera is nackad on my phone so had to take pics at home.

Well done on the sole mate, I had said to Mick earlier that there would be another one that night, Rob was hoping it would be his.
I must have just missed you after I left but I'd been there since twelve and I was knacked.
Great night to be out weather wise, it just got better as the day went on.

No not yet mate. I'm also having mine tomorrow after I read Stewart's reply to your thread saying they taste better after a few days in the fridge. Lemon and a bit of garlic I think will do the trick
