Me and a couple of mates decided to have a few chucks in the river yesterday afternoon (near the police launch in jarrow). Wasn't very optimistic when we arrived, with a breezy north westerly wind blowing right across our lines. But the fish were there right from the start, think i managed 4 codling averaging a pound and half within the first 2 hours of the flood. From around the middle stages of the flood, things went quite and one of the lads i was fishing with decided to move further up towards the old monks jetty. Within 5 minutes of him leaving us, we were alerted by the lad screaming he was into a good fish and looking at the struggle he was having we were over to him in a flash! After a few dodgy moments with the fish managing to get trapped in amongst the big boulders in front of us twice, i managed to lift out a nice pot bellied cod which weighed in at just under 8 pounds (not bad for the river). I took a few pictures of it using my mobile, which i have uploaded onto my computer but i can't seem to add it onto this site! They aren't great quality pics but i could email them if needed! Anyway, well done that man (brian hyde/ hebburn)
