Rushed home from work with the intention of getting out for an hour before low water and fishing a couple of hours up. Went straight to Cullercoats harbour where there were two people fishing close in. First cast got a small codling one and a half pound which I managed to unhook and place in a puddle to keep alive with the intention of releasing if I didn't catch anything else. After two more casts I decided to move to slatey gut so went to release the codling. Only to discover that it had disapeared, searched under the weed, all round the puddle. Eventually found the fish high and dry under a large rock about 15 feet away with a big rat tucking into it's belly. Needless to say I left it to it and moved onto Tynemouth beach. Tried Slatey Gut, Stoney Bottom and the hole in front of the Park Hotel. The only thing they all had in common was heaps of weed and plastic waste. Called it a day and headed home to catch the second half of the footy.
