Fished yesterday afternoon / night.
Started at Lynemouth just after low water about 200 yards north of where the burn runs in, there was about 10 or 12 people fishing but all I saw caught was small stuff, sea looked nice still decent rollers coming in. I caught one coley about 10" (returned). Decided enough was enough and headed off to Blyth beach about two hours before high water.
Fished the middle of Blyth beach a couple of hundred yards up from the toilets, as soon as the tide was at top the bites came, trouble was you couldn't see them, the surf was making the rods dance about and the wind had got up too, only knew you had a fish on when your lead broke free and started to get washed down the beach. Managed one coley, two whiting (returned) and two pan sized codling. Conditions were perfect, sea was quite rough and it was a beautiful mild night.
I heard the report in the paper that there were supposed to be loads of good sized cod just off shore, obviously the trawlers heard this as well, it looked like Blackpool illuminations when you were looking out to sea, and some of them couldn't have been more than a quarter of a mile out. Hope they left a few!
