    Ssp this morning

    Braved the wild weather and fished the brigade hut for an hour this morning 8-9am.

    Got one mackerel and one lesser sand eel (first one for me! 6 species in about 6 weeks), and probably caught a cold as well.

    Birds were going crazy about 70 yards out, but couldn't cast that far against the wind, way too windy.

    Might get down again this afternoon if it brightens up a bit, probably fish 'Marks-Wall' with a float, try for pollack or wrasse!

    I had a few hours down there yesterday Andy from 5 till 9.30. Tried a few different things, ledgered some Isomes with the Yuki Ruby, only a small sea scorpion to show. I chucked out spinners, jelly worms and Isomes with lead heads, nothing.
    It was a different matter with the float fished ragworm, practically a fish a chuck. I ended up with 2 coalies, 2 wrasse and I lost count of the pollack. No big fish but plenty sport to keep me entertained.

      Cheers, if I do get down I am planning on using a float and Ragworm - bought a load of ragworm yesterday as I was going to go to druridge bay this morning fishing for flatties, but when my alarm went off at 5 I looked out the window and changed my mind. Decided to just go down the pier instead, probably be down there for high tide tonight.

      Have you getting your catches at high tide, or just anytime?

        The mark that I've been fishing is a high tide mark only. The bottom is exposed at low tide so about three hours before top water there is enough water there to fish in.

          Well done on motivating yourself to fish in that weather mate.... Make sure the Wrasse King doesn't charge an admission to fish at 'Marks Wall' lol

              well...got there for 5pm with high hopes of wrasse and pollock jumping onto the hook, but had a very poor session.

              fished from about 5pm till 8.45pm, high was 8.45pm. got one tiny coley on the float; every time i reeled in though, the hook was stripped. I dont know if the fish or crabs were pulling the bait off or if it was getting knocked off by the tide and weed - the sea was fairly rough, the float was getting knocked all over. I only had size 2/0 hooks with me, next time i'll try smaller hooks, and wait until it is calmer.

              on my last cast the float went under - just disappered really quickly - I struck and tried to reel in but it was snagged, waited a bit but it didnt free, reeled in again and ended up just snapping the line. couple of seconds later my float came bobbing back up. I'm guessing it was probably a mackerel.

              so to cut my losses i put a couple of daylights on, bagged a decent sized macki and went home.
