Just got back from a morning trip to Dustanburgh Point. Had probabally my most productive trip here to date. Started with spinners and caught either a mackerel, coal fish, or a pollack every cast.
The coalies and pollack were nothing over a pound, but it was great fun. Went onto float tackle and soon got bites once I found the right depth (Deep).Coalies and mackerel on frozen eel or mackerel strip. Had a few ragworms with me and fished these cloce in to the cliff face also on float. Caught the inevitable coal fish, but also managed a deep red Ballan Wrasse (about 2lbs). For my fifth species I caught a 3 inch long scorpion fish also on float fished ragworm.
Slowed right down by mid-morning, when it got out very warm and sunny. but this wa a smashing trip and very enjoyable.
Incidentally all the fish were returned alive except for six of the mackerel which I kept for fish cakes...If you have never tried fish-cakes made with mackerel, give your taste buds a treat and try them.....much tastier than supermarket brands !
Does any one know when Dunstanburgh castle is going to be finished built ? Seems to have been at the same stage of construction for years! Maybe the builders have gone into liquidation.
