Headed for the pier at 04:00 this morning (first time since March ) armed with runny, daylites and light spinning gear.
Set up just after the blocks on south side.
First couple of chucks used daylites nowt at all, so tried a two hook rig baited with runny. First cast two codling, one 1lb returned, the other 2.5lb, then nowt again.
05:30 tried the daylites again, first cast two pollack, both weighing 2.5lb, then had a couple of mackerel.
About 06:30 gulls started to dive just in front of me, got seven mackerel, then quiet again.
Tried using the daylites at different depths to see what was about, let it sink quite low and hooked what felt like a dead weight, battled with it for about ten minutes before it surfaced, nice big fat pollack, but my slosh 30 kept slipping, so decided to try and land it on the steps, got to the round end and lost it, just as someone was coming across to give me a hand, absolutley gutted it must have been at least 8lb +.
Carried on until 09:00, bagging another four mackerel.
Had a great time after four months not fishing, weather was spot on to
