  • Loch Etive sat & sun

Just started 2 weeks holiday on friday night so decided on a 3 or 4 day trip upto etive to start the holiday off.
Arrived about 8am and set up at the stream about midway between the church and the priory. This is normally a night time venue so wasnt too hopeful but wanted this spot for sunday night so thought id give it a go during daylight anyway. Going was slow as i expected not even the joey mackerel which were abundant last year at this time here. Then just after low water i was rewarded with two thornies on consecutive casts at 5lb & 6lb so not a dead loss. Time for sleep.
Woke up about 8-30 pm and was full of confidence, but alas again the going was slow but did manage 2 spurdogs out at 6lb & 7lb, so again not brilliant but ok.
Today i decided during daylight to fish the priory for thornies over low water. First cast straight into a small thornie, this was the pattern of the day thornie after thornie mainly small but with a smattering of better ones thrown in. Ended up with 35 thornies (best just over 7lb) non stop action.
Back to the original venue at the stream to try for the spurs again after dark.
Ill do an update tomorrow and post plenty pics probably on tuesday when i return.

Well back in the car for some rest now.
Fished the stream again over low for the spurs. Got 2 spurs out quite quickly both around the 5lb mark. Then it went dead until about 1am when i got a slackliner, wound about 15 yds of slack in and bang fish on. New it was a much better spur this time. Soon had it beached. Weighed it and it tipped the scales at 12lb 8oz so well chuffed with that a 12lb 8oz spurdog. That one fish has made the trip worthwhile. Got some pics of it that ill post when i get back. Still buzzing...........

Hiya, we've fished the etive a couple of times now with mixed success. You've done loads better than us! What rig and bait are you using?

Keep things simple. Most lads i know use pennel pully rigs but i much prefer simple clippy down rigs with srt springs and single 2/0 or 3/0 manta extras. Hook snood not overly long 18 inches to 24 inches i finds ideal.
As for bait mackerel or sandeel to be honest you wont go far wrong using 3" pieces of mackerel.
