Fished a rock mark near Portlethen yesterday (Sat), not a good day for me. Got down the very slippy grassy slope onto the rocks which were like a skating rink - covered in green slime. Weather was amazing; we sat and watched the sunrise, kind of strange still being in short sleeves in November.
Fishing started off slow, first few casts saw only coalies showing an interest. I looked over to see my mate bent into a good fish. Turned out to be 7.5lb on the digital scales. A long thin fish which had obviously been hanging around in the kelp for a while. On a better day it could have reached double figures.
After that it was just bait robbing coalies and snag after snag to contend with. So we decided to move, I had a mark on the other side of the field in mind, my mate decided to move along the rocks a bit. So I started the climb back up, arrived at the top panting like a dog. Having survived the ultra slippy climb down, the 5 minute climb across the rocks and the gruelling climb back up.....now I feel stupid admitting to this......I took half a dozen steps along the path, lost my footing and went over on my ankle. I am now sitting with an ankle that is twice as big as it should be and starting to turn a nice shade of blue. In there ended my fishing, it was only a half hour hobble back to the car and a very long 2 hour drive home.
Does it still count as win from my mate.....?? I mean I was disabled and probably would have caught a bigger one....lol. Think I would rather forget this trip although I do have a lasting reminder, I am only glad it happened at the top of the hill - just goes to show how dangerous it can be at times.

Ouch, thats going to put you out of shore action for a couple of weeks fifer,as you say just as well it wasnt down on the rocks that it happened its a fair trek back to the car.
last time i was @ portlethen was that freezing cold winter in 96,minus 18 but didnt feel as cold as that with no wind, the fish were unbelievable that day hitting the baits within seconds of hitting bottom, all good sized fish to.
never fished it since mind as the few times i have went had a look its been like blackpool lol.
nice fish for your m8 yesterday and yes i do think that does count as a win for him

Well i am hoping to be back fishing next weekend. It was really painfull when it happened but not that bad 10 mins later. Got home and was thinking of going to hospital, this morning seems to be getting better so hopefull be back out soon.
We were not fishing Portlethen as in the bit everyone seems to fish. We fish the more remote marks near to Downies. The average size of fish seems to be much larger round here than anywhere else I fish. Last summer I had fish to 8lb from the kelp, one day I had 2 fish over 7lb and 1 over 5lb in the space of a few casts.
Problem here is most fish are resident and once removed they take a while to be replaced. I have never seen another angler or any signs of fishing along this area....maybe the climb and walk put most people off.
Might see you around some time......and I hate geting beat!!!!...lol
