Nothing at Sandsend Car Park (2 up and 1.5 down) which is virtually unheard of, and 2 coalies, a rockling and a scorpion fish from whitby pier in 2 hours. All the fish fell to crab. Ran out of crab and the bites dried up. See was flat (apart from a slight roll in the morning) which didn't help at all. Ah well, there's always next time!

I'm heading over to Anglesey next weekend with a few lads to see what damage I can do there - the westerly winds should be in our favour for once!

Ollie mate,, I have fished a good few spots around the S/Wales coast and one of the best spots for coddling I found was a place called the steps ( I think thats what it was called), which is half way between Penath and lavernock (not as far as the ranny), another to try maybe the foreshore. The only thing that would put me off fishing it now is all this fresh water going in,,,
P.S dont forget Ogmore deeps mate, nice comfortable fishing from them big flat rocks.

Mike if you are going to Anglesey pop into Malcolms (ABC Tackle) in Beaumaris (just over the bridge turn left, follow signs, its next to a petrol station) he is a good bloke and very informative he will let you know the crack (where to try and wats catching wat and he sells his gear DIRT cheap).
I have been fishing all along the Menai over the last month with differing amounts of success (had codling to 4lb and bass to 5lb) plagued by doggies at the mo. If you get chance try a couple of places on the mainland ( not far from Caernafon) like Hellsmouth (good bass getting caught there at the minute, then there's Y Felinheli (even closer ).

I hope both you and Ollie enjoy the fishing to be had in Wales (north and south).
All the best and keep us informed

Ollie's spot on Mike, forgot to mention the tide dont half rip thru the Menai best fishing from the top of the tide down. There are one or two nice secluded bays that allow fishing all the tide but they are few and far between ( Y Felinheli is one).
On about mud ,,,,thats one of things that stick in my mind (as well as all over the body) about fishing the foreshore esp the monkey pole, its on hell of a muddy hole.
Much prefered to fish Barry, Penarth and Sully, whereva you go to I hope you have a productive time Ollie mate, its over a year now since I was in s/wales so I'm a bit green eyed, cause it can be the bee's
And Mike at the momment the only bait thats doing the business is lug, or crab/mussel cocktail on the mainland side, anything goes on Anglesey, If you want to pick up some decent bait on the way drop into Bay View Angling (Colwyn Bay 0149 535888) they always have nice big fresh blacks (£2.5 for ten) and still has live peeler (50p each).
It's just a pity (for me anyway) that you were fishing there at the w/end, if it was midweek I could of met up with you for a couple of hours.
Have a gd time lads, and go show them welshies how its done lol
