The day started at 04:45hrs. Davyred had to drive at this un-godly hour as I was still buckled off the drink. After picking up Gary and Sean we made the long journey to Port Logan.

We arrived just before 08:00 after Davy managed to break the land speed record in my car across the A75. If I thought his driving was Damon Hill like that was the least of my worries........

After unpacking Davy told the three of us that "the mark is just over the hill"......."That's a big hill I thought". With inhaler in hand I followed Sir Edmund Hilary, (Davyred) up the mountain. The journey saw me sweat the first 8 bottles of the previous nights Stella Artois. Gary kindly carried my rod etc....After reaching the peak Sir Edmund showed us where we would be fishing......your having a laugh mate we all thought.

Sir Edmund starting on his decent down the cliff face, (honest a cliff face......I was scared witless) and the three amigo's proceeded to follow, very carefully I may add. This is the type of climb we faced....over this lot.....

These rocks were around 60ft up from the sea. After around 20 mins of climbing we reached the mark absolutely knackered.

Sir Edmund gave us his instructions as how to fish. Spinning frozen sandeel...new one on me being a boat man hunting Cod.

True to his word, Sir Edmunds mark was bristling with Pollock in the 2 to 3lb range. I was really struggling to catch a thing until Gary gave me a few pointers.....Pollock landed with the next cast....Gidddduppp.

The lads ended up with around 6 or 7 Pollock each and a couple of Wrasse. I ended up with just one. Biggest landed was around three pounds....Gary lost one around 6lb on the lift, (Sir Edmund kicked it off but don't tell Gary. He's not the best at landing fish nowadays)

15:00hrs came quickly. With the exception of Sir Edmund we were all pretty nervous about the climb out. I was shaking like a witch doctors rattle. The 8 pasties, 3 sandwiches, 4 pork pies and 4 Mars bars I consumed had not helped my nerves at all.

After overcoming the first rock I looked up to see the smug git Sir Edmund nearly at the top. He had also carried most of our gear with him as well. I was sweating waterfalls by now. Anyway, it took 15 minutes but I got to the top............and collapsed.

A great day anyway. I'd love to do it again but to fish that particular mark I'd need to loose around 6 stones in weight and get my brains surgically removed like Gary.

I really enjoyed my first experience of Pollock fishing and can't wait for the next time.

I also cannot wait to get Davy out on a boat in a rough sea to get my own back.........

    Jeff.

Glad you enjoyed it Jeff. Now you can see us shore lads are not like you soft boat angler types, we have to to a bit physical exercise to get to our marks

Heres a couple of pics of the mark in question......(Jeff, hold onto something while you look at them!!)

    Now a couple of Jeff......

The only reason Jeff struggled to get down was the amount of scran he had with him - it would have kept a third world country going for 5 years!!

Jeff did fail to mention that he was scared of heights before we went down. That would have made a difference.....not.

Great day though, had a run from something big as I was bouncing my 3oz sinker in the tide race with a long strip of mackerel. It just ripped line off my drag, then dropped the bait. I'll be back though.

Good photo's them Davy..........wait till the lads at work see them. They've all got the one with me in a pink bikini as screensavers....!! I'm in for some stick now.

Started back on the punchbag etc... this week to get fit for the next trip. Going to start doing some roadwork again as well. Things you have to do to go shore fishing.

The rock fishing for winter cod better not be as tiring mate. I may not make it home next time. Just in case I don't please consider this my last will and testament-:

    1. All Shore Fishing gear to be auctioned on NESA for charity.

    2. All boat fishing gear to be left on the Volante.

    3. Any clothing left to Shirley Crabtree or if it's too big for him Davyred can have it. He has the biggest backend I've ever seen....!!!

    4. Please arrange an exchange of my brain with the cabbage Gary's head currently houses.

    5. Please bury any left over sandwiches with me.

    Cheers,
    Jeff.

The Winter marks won't be as bad Jeff, unless I take you to the flat rock at Balcary, via the point

The reasons for the big backend are:-

    1) If I fall, I've something soft to land on, a bit like Gary with his head (only kidding Gary)

    2) More power to climb hills and cliffs

Bit of a change from walking down to the marina mate eh
