  • Shields pier this morning

Woke up at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep, so did what most would do and went to grab a few mackerel while it was quiet, or so I thought lol. I got onto pier at 5am thought I had put my bag in a puddle as my arse was soaked, then realised my bloody juice bottle was open and had flooded my bag, great start ffs.

Got to end of pier and could see what I thought was a rod, then closer I got to end realised it was a rod rest, no ones about though so must of been left I thought. As I got even closer noticed loads of rubbish, empty beer cans, a bag with a couple of mackerel in and then noticed a rod on the ground, and further again I got and there was another rod, and then a tent.

To say the POT guy was pi$$ed off about the mess and the life belt would be an understatement.

Anyway I got myself 3 mackerel and 2 sandeels, was another fella with a few mackerel and another few fellas came and went with the odd mackerel and sandeel, no great numbers just yet though.

Glad you got a couple of mackie Pete. That gear was left by a bloke and his bairns who were fishing when I was there last night. He tried to bum some daylights off me and a swivel off my mate then later on tried to sell my mate that rod with the broken tip His daughter was not fishing but was just hanging around wearing what looked like pyjama bottoms and a light inadequate jacket while the rain hammered down. You get allsorts up there in mackie season. We moved down and fished the harbour side opposite the blocks to avoid them.

Bloody hell some people are just completely mental. Who would camp at the end of Shields pier in all the p**s and sh**e for a few mackerel. Not right in the head if you ask me.
People who live in glass houses have to answer the door.

Nice report mate . It never fails to amaze me some people can carry full cans of beer / bottles of pop etc all the way up the pier but cant be arsed to carry the empty lighter cans / bottles a few yards to the bin

Lets hope they dont get fishing stopped on there for the decent guys

Typical pier look in the summer, bags strewn out, daylite packets and cans all over. Makes us decent anglers look a disgrace, it's not hard to simply get a carrier bag and put any waste in it and put it in the bin!

Besides that, glad you had a little productive session Pete.

if anything happed to the kid on the pier would come my way at work

as said sea could get up, kid could trip slip near the railings/steps in the dark, especialy when its wet and then parent would be half cut and unable to help

I think its shocking that kids can be dragged up like that when people who cant have kids suffer
