posted on 4/4/2005 at 11:05just back from another week. Not a lot happening on the decent fishy front, then it is a kind of in-between times, but still had some good fun. had a couple of good days with the bairns bashing baby pollack/coalies from the pier at kilchoan and the old lighthouse pier on the point, must of had over a hundred fish float fishing with a wee bit of lug size 4 hooks and the kids 6 foot spinning rods, nothing over half a pound, but a fish every few minutes. Did also pull in a couple of small wrasse which was unexpected as well
fished Sanna point for flatties and had a mixed bag of dabs, flounder and plaice (11 fish in total in 3 hours) but all a bit on the wee side but I was only using an 11 foot carp rod so still good fun, and more than I was expecting as caught bugger all last easter. The big storms in january seem to have done wonders for the worms, lots of big blacks, so much so that when fishing sanna, I'd hoy it out, put the rod down turn round and with me little folding army shovel, into the sand turn it over and there's the bait ffor the next cast!, can't get much fresher than that.
did see lots of dead rays on the beach, even though I've never caught one from there, thought they were maybe dumped from a trawler, never seen them like that before though.
not much happening with the spinner, just suicidal/ambitious pollack taking spinners as big as they were. One of the local pot boats has been taking mackeral in the last week which hopefully means they might be a bit early.
