I finally got some time to get out and try a bit more lure fishing mixed in with bait fishing and after trying the jelly worms from Reelsport and having some good sport with them catching pollock down by the blocks on South Shields pier I decided to try out some of their new soft plastics and jig heads to see if I could get a few different species and maybe a new species for the species hunt.
After meeting up with my brother off we went. When we got to our mark the conditions were less than favourable but we were there so decided to stay. I rigged the soft plastic on to a jig head and my brother rigged his wacky style on a dropshot rig. It wasn't long before we started getting bites with codling, pollock and shore rockling (or 3B rockling ill let you decide lol ). I seemed to be getting most of my bites on the drop or found that if I let the lure settle on the bottom for a bit then give the rod a few twitches whilst slowly reeling in that seemed to induce a bite.
The lures we were using are quite good quality and I like that I can pull bits off them to shorten the lure to suit the conditions I'm fishing and they are easy enough to thread onto a jig head or just as easily fished using a standard rig.
One of the lures glows in the dark when charged up with a uv light or left out in sunlight for the day I was especially looking forward to trying this one out through the night.
After a good few hours sport on the lures I started bait fishing to see what else was about and ended up with a new addition to my species list a nice tadpole fish caught on rag worm.
All in all it was quite a decent nights fishing and I'm looking forward to trying the soft plastics on a few more of my favourite marks and will definitely be taking some away with me on my fishing trip in August.
Thanks for reading.
