Been chasing a nice Plaice for the last few weeks and just catching Flounders, Dabs and Coalies at Roker and Hendon but targeted Plaice at SSP today at the slab just before the gate. One fish all day and it was a nice 37 cm Plaice. Mission accomplished
Hard work in the cross wind but nice in the warm sun.
Chasing the 2.5 pound Plaice next

Now with pic added. Sorry I did take a photo at the time but could not get it to upload last night (too much beer ?). Had to work hard for it fishing two rods one with a two hook flapper rig and one with a wishbone rig. Baits were lug rag and bluey but the wishbone rig and lug did the trick this time. Cheers .

Yes it was a Plaice, but shrinking the photo lost the detail, it had the row of nodules from the head to the start of the gills. I need to find a way of loading the full size photos onto the site

nice one m8 at least you managed one out dont know if its the picture but it looks like a flounder
Looking at the picture it could be either to be honest. I've had a few Plaice from the Slab area that had very dull spots; the shape looks more Plaice than Flounder to me but due to the picture you can't see the tail or if it has got the Klingon headgear both of which would aid confirmation one way or another...
Well done either way; I often fish two rods in that area but if the wind is howling down the river it can be a horrible place to fish.

Yeah looking at the picture it's a bit hard to be sure but the head & tail-shape look plaice-like to me. I was fishing just past the gate with three chums and we all managed one each - best 38cm, so they were there....we also had a few small dabs, flounder & a few tommies. It was a bit horrible with that wind - the first couple of hours we fished up to HW were fish-less but as soon as the tide turned I got the first plaice 38cm & it was practically a fish a cast (of some sorts) until we wrapped in at 5pm.
