Well what a day we had in the Seaham Junior Comp on Saturday between 1500hrs and 1800hrs on the pier with pegs between 5 and 55,.lovely weather and some canny fish for the kids..19 kids fished and they all enjoyed the day and the experience. Thanks to Nets and Fishing Republic for your prize donations and to all who helped out in both donations and prizes..Thanks to members who came to help (you know who you are) and lastly to those on the committee who gave up most of their day to help run the show. Also to Tony and Emma who did a great job in feeding the kids....
Comp was based on catch/weigh/release anything over 25cms and only one Mackerel per angler to count (first one).
Young Keane Greenhow was instantly into the fish and had a nice amount of Coleys right in front of his peg. With his one Mackerel a few Coleys and a nice 14oz Wrasse it gave him the HB prize and his Wrasse got him the Julie Simpson Memorial Specimen prize.
Young Joe Russell showed his skills when baiting up a nice snake white and launching it approx 80 yards and instantly hooking into a nice Codling weighing in at 1.25lb giving him the HF prize with 6yr old Harley Thompson a close second with a nice 1.18lb Mackerel.
All the kids had a great day and All took home some sort of prize which included around eight rods and eight reels. Not at all bad for a free days fishing and some food at the end
Cant see why we can’t do this once a year for the kids and let’s see the Comp grow..

**** Only sad note was the fact that when the overall winner Young Keane Greenhow went the following day to spend his winnings at a local high street store, he placed his winnings down as he wrote out his order form and some female low life robbed him of his money. I have been in touch with Keanes Dad Robin who states his son was devastated at the theft, this has seen friends of the family and local fishermen come together and Young Keane has finally been able to purchase what he wanted, also a collection is ongoing at the Seaham Club to get Keane something else, which will again put a smile back on his face and show Keane that when anything like this happens, the North East has a lot of good folk around and that the low life’s won’t spoil a young lads happiness...*****
