  • SBRAAC - season overview 2011/12

This winter season 2011/12 proved to be pretty good for most members, thanks largely to the numbers of whiting around this year. On the downside, the number of codling being weighed in was seriously down on previous years, with several struggling to bring a single codling to the scales. However, thanks to the whiting, most comps saw a very good proportion of members weighing in, despite the generally poor conditions that prevailed on many of the match days.

The total number of fish caught this winter was 443, comprising in the main of 290 whiting, 78 flounders, 39 codling and 20 coalies, plus dabs, bass and even a LSD & mackerel.

This year's overall champ was Phil Smithson with a total weight of 61lb 6.2oz

Second was Kev Moffat, with 51lb 9.6oz

Third was myself with 49lb 15.4 oz

Heaviest fish was a codling of 6lb 9.5oz; Gary Wilson, taken from St Mary's Island

I also had the second heaviest, 6lb 4.5oz from Blyth Beach (in amongst the heaviest bag, photo above).

Third was Nicky Robson with an early season fish from Lynemouth of 4lb 10oz (in amongst the third heaviest bag)

    Heaviest bags this winter were:
    1st - Gary Wilson, 17lb 7oz (from Blyth Beach)
    2nd - Phil Smithson, 10lb 8.5oz (Blyth Beach)
    3rd - Nicky Robson, 8lb 10oz (Lynemouth)

Winner of this year's Xmas comp was Steve Alexander. Here are most of the lads at xmas enjoying a pint or three after the comp....

Club Specimen fish this year Michael Thompson with a dab of 1lb 3oz

Here are a few other pictures of some of the lads from the beginning of the season, before the nights drew in....

Well done to all the lads for a successful season this winter; looking forward to an even better winter ahead (hopefully!)

    Cheers, Gary
