  • Durham police sea comp 25/09/09

Had our last summer/river comp of the year before heading for the beaches. fished the Glass Centre at Sunderland on a lovely night and a smallish tide.
11 anglers turned up, including our mascot Young Calum Stuart 7yrs, who seems to get better each comp.
Comp was run on a 18cm min size using the SAMF measuring size charts for points, with all fish scored then returned.
Mick Dunn was into a canny flounder within minutes, with a few of the lads into the mini coalfish that seemed to be present most of the night along with the millions of crabs. Ian Ainsley then had two 30cm Flounders out with both turning out to be the longest fish of the night.
A few small cod appeared, but not big enough for Mick to take off his 50 target.
Flounders and coalfish were the fish on the night, mostly falling to crab, rag and whiteworm, with bluey the best of the tipping off bait.
Was a nice comfortable session with most lads getting fish including Young Calum.
Quote of the night was Micks "Ian, where have you brought us, its like fishing downtown Miami" ha ha. You would think he was use to the sirens and ASBO kids .
    RESULT
    1ST Ian Ainsley 4 Flounder 2 Coley for 124pts
    2nd Mick Dunn 2 Flounder 2 Coley for 56pts
    3rd Billy Huscroft 1 Flounder 2 Coley for 39pts

Ian you forgot my monster cod----8".

It was a good night-but it was like listening to my son on his Grand Theft Auto game. Talk about sirens going all night.

Looking forwards to some beach marks next.

Thanks Ian mick ( ps the rags ready for tomorrow - along with a box of squid and three mackeral)

It was a good night. I was one of the unfortunate ones not to catch any fish. However I must add I was invited out this Friday night by a man who took me down the docks and I ended up catching crabs. Cheers Ian. I think

Peter is this fishing from the shore. Saw some lads fishing from the rocks today and looks some canny spots. Would imagine its a nightmare for losing lead.
          Mick.
