  • Northumbria Police SAC - South Shields 31st Jan 2008

9 Turned out in horrible windy conditions which limited the places to fish without getting blasted in the face. For the 1st time in the last 15yrs or so of the clubs history everyone blanked. There were several who caught up to 8 undersize fish each from Jarrow Park, The Walkway and Marsden Beach but nothing to count. Some came very close with coalies just undersize.

It lookes like it will be hard work for Tony's cash match tomorrow night so whoever catches anything size may be in with a chance. Its worth turning out, you just never know your luck.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

Hard luck lads. That bliddy coalie i caught at Saltburn was a right chubby 34 cm. 1 bliddy centimetre short too.

And how come whities are a smaller official size than coalies and there is tons of massive whitie about.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

MICK, The size limits are set by NFSA (I think) for each species. My own personal observations (not catches I must add) are over the last 20yrs or so I have noticed a big decline in the number of coalfish in the Tyne esturary but the number of Whiting has increased significantly with some cracking size whiting getting caught from time to time. 3yrs ago seemed to be the best year from our club matches I fished where it wasnt uncommon for whiting to be up to 45/46cm.

Was going to stick it out to the end but the final straw, after being sandblasted on Littlehaven Beach with baits untouched, was my rod blowing over and the reel chocked with sand. After loosing four full sets next to the pedestrian tunnel, including shockleader, I wasn't going to change over reels again. One of those days when you just don't enjoy it. Should have followed Shaun's tip and packed in after 2 hours and went for a pint instead.
