This comp. was fished 6pm till 10pm on the Walkway at Shields, with high tide at around 9.30pm.
I got to the location last again, but the spot I use was vacant, I set up my gear nxt to Big Bill and examined my bait, Frozen crab, Whiteworm, live Blacks and wild rag with some blueys as a last resort for a spot of whitey bashing..Comp was minutes old when Bill pulled in a nice plump 43cm codling, good session ahead, me thought.
With my first bait still in the water and Bill dispatching his 2nd only about 30yds out, whens it my turn im thinking.
Bills rod is again bouncing to the tune of a lovely 39cm Whitey, this aint going to plan.examining Bills bait, I could see lugworm, ragworm, squidheads and Mackeral. "What yer catchin on Bill" I enquires, "just a bit ov everything" he replys," Got most ov the bait off Big Paul as he was leaving the walkway" well my bait is changed, only to see Bill pull in a nice 46cm codling. No one else has a fish, as the pattern continues, Bill catchin, me not..."I hate the Tyne" starts going through my mind..
By 9.45pm Bill has 3 plump codling and 4 cracking Whitey all on his "Special bait"
Thats it, Bill give me a chunk ov that Mackeral I say, im resorting to dirty tactics, I tied on two hind legs of macki on my 2 hook flapper and yea uve guessed it, a lovely 37cm whitey is landed measured and released..I will never understand fishing, but at least I didnt blank..unlike the others ha ha. A guest appearance was made during the comp, by a well known Angler, after some tips on how its done, and for advice for his comp the nxt day with the Cleadon club. Well Codonly, I tried to tell you where to fish, but you wouldnt listen lmao...
1st Bill Huscroft 264cm codling and whitey...biggest 46cmcodling
2nd Ian Ainsley 37cm whitey
No other fish caught.
