Well,What can I say,Six hardy soles braved the shocking conditions tonight in what was the last Comp of the year(06).
The location was The Walkway at Shields or Velva Liquids for those of you who can remember, fishing an incoming tide from 1800hrs till 2200hrs,with high tide about 2145hrs.
The wind was shocking, but the rain kept off, so we cracked on,with me last at the venue again, but the spot I was after was not taken.I set up my rod,not daring to let go off it, due to the wind then cast my bait into the choppy water, securing it as best as possible.
I then turned my attention to my bait bucket which by now was trying to escape in the wind, securing all my kit,I looked at my rod,to see it dancing to the tune of a nice 1lb 7oz codling, not a bad start I thought,The fish was recorded and released before the nxt bait was dispatced, same again but this time a little tommy. Two hrs later not a further single fish landed between all anglers. The wind by now was Gale force,so a decision was made to retreat back South, to the Glass centre to seek shelter on the Wear.
Things were slow at first, then I landed a nice Whitey of 12oz,the odd knock but it was very quiet,Half hour to go and Bill Huscroft got a crackin 15oz whitey in top condition.A quiet night really, with not much action, but again its better than stopping in.
Result. 2 weighing in 1st I.Ainsley 2 fish for 2lb 3oz
2nd B.Huscroft 1 fish for 15oz
H/F I.Ainsley Codling 1lb 7oz
