no reason why you cant, cod will take lures of all descriptions, all you need is good clear water with no obstructions, could see a cod taking a big sal****er fly but getting it out the tangles along some marks along our shoreline on a fly rod no. You need to play a fish if you are using light gear.

its easier than you would think, IF you can find the fish. no need for expensive flies anything white works but if you want to catch anything with any consistancy you have to fish after dark.

we should be due a good season soon so pick marks where you can catch the fish close in on bait and fish the same places after dark with a fly.

for beaches try sandy bay, cresswell and hadstone.

rock marks try beacons, silver carrs, fluke hole, torrs at boulmer, craster, dunstanborough & all over at newton

Spot on PT , I find kelpy areas with sandy gully\'s the best places to latch into a cod , because you can put the lures over the kelp and let it sink over the sandy area where you move it quickly to induce a take. I use the white bellies of gurnard skins. dry them out on a piece of glass ,then peel them off to make your flies [they are lures really] I have over the years only fished in the last of the light and first light with any success, but after you mentioning white flies, youv\'e got me thinking.

Tied some lures for Tim at Frasers and they got some cod in Norway a year or two ago fly fishing. Not sure about the location though
