Im goona take my tent and gear and have a few days over Portpatrick this week. Ive never been to let alone fished the area.

Does anyone here have any advice on bait, marks or methods for the area?

Also if i take my fork is there anywhere to did a bit of bait in the area? Is there a decent tackleshop in the area?

Lots of questions but im keen to make the most of a few days fishing

Just returned from my caravan in Drummore(Luce Bay side) a few hours ago.

Actually fished at Portpatrick this afternoon. It was just a quick one hour session though Missed two cracking takes on ledgered sandeel.

Try fishing the \"Yellow Isle\". Go up the stairs to the north of the harbour and follow the path alongside the golfcourse. Just about 200yds past the radio masts you will see a path cutting down to some yellow lichen covered rocks. It is well worth a try.Its a good species mark. well worth trying a bit spin as well

Not sure about digging local bait so take some over or try the Sports Shop in Stranraer or Ardwell Marine. Ledgered sandeel is well worth a shot

A better mark is the south end of the mull. About a 30 min drive from Portpatrick. Park up at the lighthouse carpark and go through the gate on the east side of the car park and follow the wall all the way down. Pollack, mackerel, wrasse,LSDS,conger aplenty.

      Cheers mate, more advice apreciated.

I am gonna take spinners, redgills and floats for my carp rod and was planning on taking macky strip, sandeels, ragworm and a bit squid i have in the freezer for the beach rods.

Does that sound right or is it worth splashing out some hard earned on some fresh crab??

As i said i am totally new to the area, never been in my life. Whats it like for car parking ? will i be ok taking my good motor (which will be fun to drive over) or should i take my banger? dont want to risk getting car screwed

go to the left of the screen, click on original site and have a look at my holiday makers guide to Portpatrcik.
Good tackle shop in Stranraer, loads of places to dig bait, bottom of Cairn Ryan, rag and lug. Sandhead, most beaches have some sort of worm bed. Wont find many crab this time of year, molt will have almost finished. Should be plenty mackerel.

Your car is at risk anywhere mate, rural crime does excist, dont leave any valuables in the car and make sure its locked, same as anywhere really.
You should be able to catch Mackerel for bait so sand eels and a few worms should be all you need, unless you want to splash out on crabs which do work over there but will probably be ruined if you are just kipping in the tent and have\'nt used them all,you could give the Sports Shop in Stanraer a ring to see what bait they have available, nice shop and very helpful.check your pm\'s on the left above \"Search Box\"
          Cheers Alan...
