If it were me I'd be travelling another 7 miles up the coast. Though if the forecast for tomorrow is correct it will be moot anyway; winds look like swinging northerly through Wednesday which might well dirty the water up and see the pier closed...

(and the forecast for the weekend is even worse, just when things look to be settling down and the water clearing nicely we get a northerly storm )

The long term forecast is the same as last year wind and lots of rain they reckon the jet stream is stuck over us again

Thanks lads, no probs to travel up to SSP, if it's open where would you recommend mate ? If it's shut would the first gate area be worth a go ?

The first gate is worth a shot but two were caught last week around the 42 mark when I was there.

My experience is that the first gate fishes better over HT while the 42-44 marks fish best on the early part of the flood. Also the first gate is better for quality (I've had Plaice to just under 3lb from here) whilst further up the pier is better for quantity. A decent cast helps at the 44 as well but it is still a bit on the slow side - I had a couple of bags of 10 plus Plaice this time last year but at the moment it's just chucking out the odd one or two.

I was thinking of trying the 44 on Thursday evening to see if it has picked up yet but looking at the weather forecast I don't think I'll bother now
