lad i know barry smith caught a garfish last night on blyth pier said there was another caught by a lad next to him. seen the photo on his phone it was massive. trying to get it sent so i can post it on here.
anyone else heard of garfish on the north east coast.

Garfish are a rare one indeed ! there was a few caught in the very hot summer of 76 but never seen any ammount since! The od one turns up now and again ,but when they do they are BIGGUNS!!!!
Never seen them myself at Blyth but heard of them from time to time. Only caught one once at Newlyn on light gear and it tail-walked. Shed loads of bloody scales though.
Ninga, there was one undersized Mackerel caught while we were there and it was returned. I saw one guy gutting a single Mackerel that he had caught earlier but that was it mate.

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.
To fish for them go with small hook, size 6 or 8, and a long thin strip of mackerel belly flesh. I was told that way in Felixstowe years ago but got none, tried it in Cornwall and got it straight away.
