i tried shields pier a few months back and every cast i lost gear .Is there a particular spot that is better? i understand you get snagged from time to time but this was every single cast.

If you try some of the \"clean sandy bottom marks\" that TC and Jim mentioned you should be ok, you dont need to be a tournament caster to clear the pier foundations, but use a grip lead if you dont already, especially when fishing the flood as the tide pull is usually quite strong and it will pull you into snags.

this fishing trip didnt go well at all.
we tried \"44\" first and we all just got snagged every time.
we got sick of it there so we headed of to the river wear under the bridge. it was totally dead not a single bit all day.Comment

oh ye of little faith ,ive always found if all else fails try the boathouse
if not the corner down from the prom casting at 45degrees from the steps,its hit and miss at the best of times but you never know your luck

it might just be me but when ever ive fished along whitley or tynemouth all the drunken young lads wanna do is have a bit crack,caught owt mr etc you only rarley get trouble makers and even then you always get one sensible lad amongst the bunch
give our drunks a chance is what i say after all its only the drink talking
