  • Lesser Spotted Dogfish

It's mad that southern anglers hate them and we like them... I know there are still not many about but what are the best places to have a chance of a LSD in the North East?

    Thanks for any help
    PBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz.. Coalie 1lb9oz.. Flounder 1lb7oz.. Dab 15oz.. Plaice 13oz.. Bass 1lb 6oz

Seaham north pier is your best shot for one.
    Sandeel bait.Size 1 hook.
There is also an odd one comes from roker roundhead.

To be honest i dont think its really a species you can target very well in the north east it will be mainly pot luck cathcing one as the arent very prolific around our coast compared to the west coast etc, Good luck in your hunt anyways

Not had one myself, but Craster does throw up a few each summer; we've had one or two in our summer matches. They tend to be very dark, almost black; and a friend of mine had a very good one while pleasure fishing, well over 4lb, that would most likely have been a N/E record if he'd kept it & had it verified.

Horden hoys a few out after dark, in fact I'd hazard a guess that most of the colliery beaches would produce Woofers after the sun goes down but so very few fish them in the summer it's a bit of an unknown quantity. Now if the Smoothhound continue their northward migration and start showing off the Durham coast, then you really would see packed summer night beaches...

As for hating them: when you have made a 200 mile round trip to fish Chesil beach hoping for Trigger Fish, Conger, Bass or Ray but your bait is being nabbed by 1lb LSD's within moments of being cast out then yes, you soon come to hate the little scavengers.
