  • Backing line for braid

Im about to order 125 yards of braid for my braid spool on penn affinity. Should i be looking to use a backing line of mono with only 125 yards of braid?? if so what size thanks

Its just so that the braid isn't bedding into the spool mate so doesn't really matter, I'm using 10lb mono for my backing. Best to soak the braid before putting it on the reel aswell.

I would just order some braid from China for £10 (300m spool)
and fill the full spool with no backing.
That's what i do, works out cheaper.
I even bought the 1000m spool of 80lb for £22 delivered for me boat reels

So use a bit of mono backing then my braid then a leader. that would be okay?

i use it on me spinning reel straight through with no problems.
Just get a higher breaking strain if your unsure.

Use mono of a similar diameter to your braid as backing, attach using a Albright , UNI to UNI , yuca tan etc. mono will also stop your braid slipping on the spool. Don't fill your spool right to the top leave a little shallow. If you have a spare spool use this in the following way. load on the braid first then attach backing , fill spool to desired level. you now have a perfect filled spool with the correct amount of backing. take that spool off and wind it back on the spool you require. Takes the ball ache out of guessing how much backing to put on.

I just use white plumers thread lock tape rather than backing
line and i fill spool up never let me down yet no line
                slip nothing

i also like to put a wrap of electrical tape over the backing mono to braid knot.

ive found that over time the knot can push foreward through the braid and catch during a cast causing crack offs

load the backing, form your knot. wrap tape over it and wind on your braid.

you're going to need more than 125 yards I would double that

in a earlier post he is going to match that penn affinity with braid to a sonik sk continental 16ft for beach fishing with that setup your going to cast more than 125 yards without even trying

Isn't a braid spool made for just braid anyway with no backing line ?
