  • new rod and real

alrite lads, Im thinking of getting a new rod and reel and was hopeing for some suggestions at the moment i have a shakespeare xcede beach caster 3.60 m fixed spool rod 4-6oz. It seems very short compared to alot of other peoples rods and was woundering if this mite be why i cant cast very far? I also have an okuma impact IM80 fixed spool reel would this also effect distance of cast? The whole lot only cost around £40-50 new. The reason being that i didnt want to go out and splash me cash and then find sea fishing is not for me BUT IT IS :-). So im looking at getting a new rod and reel which will hopefully do me better. I fish piers and rock marks mainly but am starting to go to more beach marks aswell so an all rounder would be best if there is such a one. Also thinking about switching to multiplyer as i feel i could manage a one as long as its not to technical lol. Looking at abudget of around £150-200 for rod and reel. Oh i use an off the ground cast as i dont fancy killing any one trying sumic fancy just saying as i understand some rods have certain casting styles. cheers again lads.

P.s i know its in wrong forum but this gets the most visits but understand if it has to be moved cheers

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

Doesn\'t have to be moved mate but it\'s a major question that would get a lot of answers in the winter when the boards are busy ,I hope Jim has helped .
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

id go for the ron thompson axelerator and a daiwa sl20/30
both great bits of kit ,within budget and the reels very forgiving to the new comer to a multiplier, the rod will give the stiffness for rough ground but will still suit beach work

        just my opinion of course
        cheers Bri

thats a good sugestion by bri good rod good reel, or could try a abu 6500 mag / penn 525 mag also good for a beginer with the extra control via magnets (my own experience ).also the penn range of rods with free 525 mag reel is well within your budget range too . suppose its a question off deciding as everyone has the faves. hope this is of some help

you can take this advice or stick it where the sun dont shine,
1st multiplyer should be and only be an ambassador 7000,the reason being and most people forget is they will cope with who or whatever is put in front of it.when you master this you can then choose one of the big boys,(magelite,penn525 and so on).
as for the rod go for either the greys appolo or the ron thompson exellarator(think thats how its spelt) both are for anglers just wanting to fish without the burden of bending the rod to the extreme.(sorry to all thast still use the appolo, especially those that are comptitent),
as for terminal tackle to which you have not asked look at what is being used around you and you cant go far wrong.bait is the main game in sea angling dont care who i offend but if you havent got the right or best quality bait you wont even come near to catching fish.and this is what puts of the average angler in our coast line.the only other advice is to take your time dont rush and enjoy your angling.as for sure when you start catching you will forget the basics.( thats enjoying and learning).welcome to the sport of sea angling, only a few make it most of all break under pressure.(basically they dont like it when the going gets tough.)like i said take the advice or leave it.me i live breath and sleep fishing, best of luck in the future and hope to meet you somewhere.
