  • Sea Angler...area reports

Whilst flicking through the May edition of next months toilet paper, I stumbled across a strange line in the \"area report\" (North East) section.

According to the writer, the \"spring run of cod is now well under way\".

Can anyone confirm this, `cos the spring run hasn`t quite reached North Northumberland yet.

The spring codling run is under way but they are all undersize!
Sea Angler stopped using local anglers giving coastal reports a while back. I dont even bother to read these predictions!

You wont see the spring run of cod. They ran straight past the North East coast. Just like they did last year. If Sea Angler told me tomorrow was easter sunday 16th april, i woukd buy a calander and a newspaper so that I could cross check the dates.

This sounds like a winter run to me. The purpose of the coastal prediction is to let anglers know what they are likely to catch in the month the mag is issued ie MAY. Reporting what has happened in the winter is a waste of time as the cod have virtually vanished by the end of March.

I agree. You will always get the odd decent catch at any time of the year which cannot be predicted , providing conditions are perfect. I have had cod to 15lbs in June and once had 31 codling from the shore in July but this doesn\'t constitute a spring run as mentioned in the SA report.

Perhaps the major magazines should \"grow up\" in the nicest sense and instead of having catch updates have 2 sections - \"Recent Catches\" in other words the report someone like Matchman would send in followed by \"Catch Predictions\" because we all know that if there\'s a bit of sea on in April you might get a few from..... as with Seaham...and we all know that if it\'s as flat as a f*rt then you might get the odd flatty from.... or the River whatever might fish. By doing that the Mags treat us as relatively mature adults, allowing us to make informed decisions, not as intakers of bland meaningless out of date one comment covers all claptrap. The magazines must, if Matchman is right, have enough \"local experts\" to make this work and if they haven\'t then they will be shown up for their lack of bods in the field.

what makes me laugh is north east experts who submit reports to the sea angler get the info off locals and claim the praise themselves
i was talking to yours truly the other day and he made sense in what he was saying
get local anglers to give their views on the areas they fish
                              and how it fishes
might be somthing in that for darren taylor
                              you never know
