    Morning,

Thought if pop.along and say hi. I've just moved to Boulmer and am dying to get angling again. I've info ever done course and game and thought that I would start some shore fishing since I am pretty much living on the beach.

Obviously being new I have a few questions. First two being,

Where are the best marks along boulmer coast for a beginner to fish?
And the obligatory, what is the best gear for a beginner to but on a budget of around £150?

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. Where to start?...

I think a few questions might help before recommending what sort of gear to buy.

Do you have any particular species in mind?
What sort of marks or ground do you want to try? Clean beaches/estuaries/rocks/piers or harbours?
Do you want to fish bait or spinners/lures?
Do you have any coarse/game gear you could use, such as a spinning rod/carp rod and reels?
Do you want to learn to use a multiplier or stick with fixed spool reels?

There's a cracking mix of marks up that way so you're spoilt for choice really, but any preferences you have would help the lads point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the quick reply. To answer your questions,

Species - anything I can eat really.
I've had a look at the coast and it's a mixture of sand and rocks.
I would probably fish baits, stick with fixed spool reels.

Not sure if any if my course hear will be beefy enough. my strongest rod is a shamanic hyperloop barbel rod. And a 6000 series okuma freespool reel.

With summer on the way, pollock, bass, Coalies and mackerel would all take spinners and a spinning rod would set you back less than 30 quid, so bear that in mind. It would be very productive in the coming months and you can use the same setup for floatfishing from the rocks and harbours for pollock/wrasse too

I've got that hyperloop rod myself. 2 quivertip top sections and an Avon top section? Lovely rod. You could use that rod/reel for flatties short casting with 2 or 3oz weights on cleanest of ground no probs. Think how heavy a cage feeder full of groundbait is. Just give the reel a rinse in fresh water when you get home and a spray of wd40. Longer term a beachcasting combo would be a better choice.

You'll need a 4 to 8 oz Beachcaster and big fixed spool reel with 2 spools, one for stronger line to deal with rough Kelpy ground and one for clean beaches.

The terminal tackle and accessories can really soak up your cash, so prioritise and build it up gradually and don't give the receipts to your missus! Hooks, line, weights, tripod, rig bits, etc etc... Try and pick up what you can second hand to make your dosh go further. There's always stuff being advertised on here.

Like Davy says, there's always clubs to join, the members would keep you right

Thanks for all the info. I'm going to take a drive to Amble Angling center this weekend I think. For some reason tackle shops seem to be the best place to get info... I may see if I can pop down to the beach to so may see some of you out.

That's probably the best place to start - Norma & Tony know their stuff and will give you plenty of good advice. I haven't fished Boulmer itself, although I know of one or two marks but they're a long slog over the rocks & kelp - I tend to fish a bit further up the coast, from around Howdymans bay north...some of my favourite summer marks are from Howick north to Seahouses.

Likewise, thanks for all the advice too. Didn't but anything this morning but Norma gave me lots of advice and I'll definitely be visiting again in a few weeks to get that setup she recommended.

Going to take a walk up the beach from boulmer to Horwick to find the places you were telling me about.
