targeting other species to cod...

i kno the odd big fish is getting chucked up but i wouldnt mind a go at trying other species
ive read bass are coming back in numbers and there pollock/flatties/ etc


where would be a good shot to go for decent sized fish of the above makes and model and what do you need to do different??
ive already made up some new rigs with 1/0 hooks on cos ive been told its the best thing to do this time of year...

any suggestions on where to go and what i do different other than chucking me line and praying for a bite ???????
( no silly answers like take a long walk off short pier :P :P )

plaice fishing from the shore can be done in the ares around mussel beds find them and you will find the plaice but it can be tackle hungry using ragworm tipped with a sliver of squid size 1 to 1/0 hooks
pollock can be caught off decent rock marks where as you are casting into deep water spinning and using feathers can produce also try spinning a red gill eel using light tackle i.e a carp rod fixed spool reel and say 8lb braid where as you will still be able to launch it out a long way to the deeper water
i live in yorkshire and whilst cod fishing off filey brig i have seen people doing this and getting pollock to 6lb but have heard of bigger also they have had some terrific coley\'s

not sure if you can still fish there but torness power station used to be fun for the bass had quite a few out on the fly there, theres also large shoals of mullet up there as well

You can still catch Bass at Torness mate.
Anth as a rule you dont hear of many Bass marks/reports due to Gill Netting and conservation issues.
Pollock can be caught from rock marks from Craster to Seahouses (re Seans tactics),Whitley Pipe is another good shot for different species during the summer inc Pollock,Plaice,Mackerel and Coley.
Float fishing for Wrasse is good sport but you would have to do a bit of recce work around the rocks to find a decent mark
If you want to travel then South West Scotland is the place,loads of different species and any tactic seems to work

Like Alan says Anth, get yourself over to southwest scotland during the summer/autumn. All you need is spinning gear, a few light leads, floats and frozen sandeel and you\'ll have a great time. Any amount of mackerel there for bait as well, with some really good pollack fishing close in at most marks. If you use floatfished ragworm, you\'ll get wrasse as well.
