  • DLL PROBLEM !!

    Until I can get things sorted, (or can find somebody who knows how to sort it, is more truthful), I’ll be restricted to only looking in on NESA during the time I’m at work.

    Tried to get onto the net last night and even before I.E. opened, I got the error message;

    RUNDLL
    Error loading C:\\windows\\system\\ctrlpan.dll
    A dynamic library link (DLL) initialization routine failed

    As it turns out, I can’t even open up Widows Explorer on my computer.

    When I Right click on START and select \"explore\", I get the report;

    Explorer
    Explorer has caused an error in TPS108.DLL
    Explorer will now close.

    If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

    ????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????

    TC, if you\'re using IE that\'s beyond i think version 5 then it has the option to repair itself if you try to remove it - go into control panel/add-remove programs and select it then hit remove, it should throw you the option to remove or repair...

    What version of windows are you running?

    I presume you\'ve ran an AVS scan to play things safe....

      Cheers Lee,

      I\'ll try that when I get home.

      Would that resolve the problem with Windows Explorer, though??

      Windows version I have is ME

      When I was putting the spec together for my current PC, I mistakingly assumed that Milennium and 2000 were the same (just referred to differently....lol.... WORRA NUGGET !!)

      UPDATE:
      Dashed home at lunchtime, (sorry no sea state update today...lol), and tried your suggestion, Lee.

      Tried to open up \"control panel\", but got the same error report;

      Explorer has caused a error in TPS108.DLL
      Explorer will now close

        not familiar with ME, but i\'ve just re-read the post and realised that will be the DLL for the control panel (doh!)... if ME is anything like other versions of windoze then you should be able to do an \"over the top\" repair instalation of windows... you won\'t lose anything unlike re-installing from scratch, it should simply repair any duff files.. you\'ll need the ME install disk, just pop it in the drive and run the setup.

        edit - just searching around - check this isn\'t the problem too!

          Thanks again, Lee.

          Just been looking around on the \'net and came accross this;

          http://miataru.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/40250.html

          Looks like it\'s not an uncommon problem.
          Gonna try some of the suggestions tonight.

          LOL.... This could be \"goodbye, all\"

                  Install another browser - just in case!

                  netscape or opera are about the only choices you have

                  opera is double the speed of explorer - http://www.opera.com

                  and netscape is very versatile, and lets face face it having a none microsoft back up can\'t be all bad

                          Just being polite, Norman.
                          If R1 had not have posted a way of getting rid of the problem, I\'d still be off-line. It\'s a really good site and I\'d recommend it to anybody who encounters problems with their computer.
                          Like NESA, you have to register before you can post, but it\'s a doddle.

                          The info I got from it enabled me to sort out my Win. Explorer and I.E. problem in about 3 minutes.

                          The other problem I had (RUNDLL) - see my 1st post in this topic, turned out to be due to spyware getting onto my system.
                          It seems that even updating Norton AV definitions won\'t get rid of it as it is denied access to the offending file.

                          Following advice from another computer problems website:

                          http://www.computercops.biz

                          I downloaded a little utility called CW Shredder - downloads in around 2 seconds (on Broadband) and it clears ALL spyware on your sysem within seconds.

                          This is a direct link to CW Shredder;

                          http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe

                          If you suspect that you may have unwanted spyware on your computer, I can recommend this to get rid of it for you.
