  • how close can you get with your gill nets?

mate down in cornwall just passed this pic on to me, taken this afternoon. 1 and half miles of gill net, laid5 00 yards off shore then hauled onto the beach, nearly 30 boxes of bass landed...

guess they\'ll be down the pub tonight

there\'s goes my planned \'bass on the fly trip\' next month

no idea, the beach was whitesands bay/sennen cove, next to lands end, I\'d hope on of the lads in the village made the call though as its right on their doorstep

not seen it quite so blatant and on such a large scale down there before, a couple of years back someone netted right across the the little harbour at sennen and onto the beach, but they forgot to tell the lifeboat whose path they had blocked, the boat just cut right through the net when it was called out, but could of been much worse if the props had fouled.

the net was dropped over night and first thing this morning they were on the beach hauling,

to add insult to injury, when one of em was spoken to he shrugged his shoulders - he didn\'t speak english! believed to be french!

Bad state of affairs mate. What it needs is a sniper on the cliff top!

You may also use up to a maximum of 100m of net (measured along the headline) as long as the meshes comply with EU and any local regulations (although the latter is not particularly in the spirit of angling).

          Cheers for now

copied from one of Docs posts - dont know about longer nets ,but i bet Doc does

Shame as I believe that\'s a good beach for small eyed ray at night with some good specimens. Been down to Cornwall a couple of times and fancy going back for a bash around there.

Lovely scenery but I find the people a bit uncivil at times there.

sennen is ok, been there a few times, always been fairly welcoming, although they can be a bit sniffy elsewhere in cornwall. sennen and whitesands are cracking beaches to fish from, the rock marks at the extreme north end are really good for spinning and plugging for bass and pollock, and there\'s bass all the way along the main beach... if you can avoid the surfers!
