Hello mate,
I'm far from an expert vs some on the site but do have some experience fishing the wear for flats. Pretty much all of the river fishes but my better experiences have been slightly further up the river fishing the top of the flood or the start of the ebb. Try the following for size, I'm sure some of the other lads will see you right with some info too.
National Glass centre, north side of the river near to the mouth - fish in front of this to the right hand side
Catchy rock, south side further upstream (google keelmans lane for directions) - fishing from the car on a long stretch of river
Golden Lion, again on the south side and further up again. This is directly under the A19 at south Hylton . The river is so narrow here but don't let that put you off, best fished at the top of the flood
All of the above sites have railings and you can fish within 20m of your car at worst.
Good luck mate, drop me a pm if you want any further help.

hi there
looking to get some practice in?
2 hook flappers with size 2 hooks will be all you need.
leads will depend on the size of the tide and the venue.
its hard to describe all of the many marks as they all fish differently depending on tide size and amount of fresh water coming down and tide direction.
as a general rule though a rising tide will be better.
just about any mark will give you the chance of a fish or two.
