Seems there is a massive wild fire running along Near Bonawe quarry at loch etive and the rumours are (by a local) it was started by two men from the newcastle area driving a white transit, I hope it gets put out as im heading up at the weekend

Yea someone posted that one of the locals blamed 2 geordie men in a white van on his facebook, The link says someone was burning heather and it got out of hand, Looks to me like the usual "blame the fishermen" as there is anti wsf posters nailed to trees around the loch and the locals are sick of people fishing and leaving rubbish etc Click image for larger version

Yeah I can understand the local's anger. I have never fished there,as it is a bit extreme for me, but we have gone for many a walk around parts of the loch and the rubbish being left is really out of control.

What I find puzzling is that on every fishing site ,everyone claims to take their rubbish home, yet this loch and piers and rock marks throughout the country look more and more like rubbish tips. Doesn't really add up does it?

Me n a mate fished a mark further up from the quarry known as flat rock few weeks back. The place was a mess when we turned up. with us camping ther for couple days we had a tidy round n filled 2 carrier bags full of fishing n camping waste, was tidier when we left. It's a real shame as its a beautiful place!

                      Taken from another site>>>>>
"Defo two guys from Newcastle up to do a bit of fishing, the police have spoke to them but they are denying it at the moment. The fire started exactly where they were camping."

Yeah but that is a quote from a Scottish site, so maybe they are trying to shift the blame! Said the proud Scot !

True or not, I can see 'no camping' signs being erected just like all over mog. If it's heather, it will be peat soil underneath, which can burn and smoulders underground without any sign of fire on the surface. If somebody has had a fire and not damped it down sufficiently, it can very easily flare up again. Real shame. Easy mistake to make too.

Maybe the ppl on fishing sites that claim to tidy up their rubbish do just that, afterall there's alot of anglers not on fishing sites, many more than are I would of thought.
