  • Calella, Spain ?

long shot i know but any one got any info on fishing here ?

am off there on the 30th of may for a week and when i'm not round the pool with a vodka in me hand (not very often) i plan on doing a bit fishing thing is though i havnt got a clue how they fish over there.

my plan is to get meself a travel spinning rod and a variety of different lures and have a shot at a bit spinning or would i be better off taking a travel beach caster with a few rigs and weights and asking the locals whats best to use for bait and where to get it from ?

its either 1 or the other because I'll not get every thing in me case

i've had a little browse on the net but can't find much info about it.

any help will be much appreciated

alreet mate, i was on holiday there a couple of years ago and had my spinning rod with me, and what a great time i had i used a small float set up in and around the harbour walls and rocks and caught loads of grey mullet, to catch these you will need small hooks and a loaf of bread, when you find a likely spot start throwing small pieces in and the fish tend to home in on them often swirling around it breaking it down to eat, this is when you bait your hook squeezing a peasize or smaller bit onto it and let it sink slowly watching your float for any suspicious dip, i really enjoyed it hope this helps korky.

Was there a few years ago , did not fish but there are quite a few rocky outcrops past the lighthouse on the hill might be worth a try . Also there was a few of the locals setting up on the beach at dusk , you could always ask them if they could point you in the right direction .

Must warn you the beach beside the lighthouse is a nudest beach so EYES FRONT!!!

It was quite a few years ago but I did do some ledgering off the beach and got some strange fish that looked like giant weevers which the locals made soup out of them. I got them on squid which I bought from the local supermarket . They were in a tin lol.
If you can find anywhere that sells a fresh fish I would just cut it up and use that.
Even if you don't get owt big atleast it will be warm.
        Good luck mate.

cheers for all the replies lads, some good info there.

al defo give the float a shot with some bread think i'll squeeze a rod in my lasses case as well and try and find some where that sells fresh fish or tinned squid lol, get a bait chucked out while i play about with a few lures and the float.

not to bothered if i don't catch out i'll still have fun trying and i'll be topping me tan up

Have a word with one of the chefs in your hotel as about two miles away there's a place they can get trays of ragworm for about 3 euros.they are more like maddies to be honest but fishing early morning or dusk me and my pal had dozens of gilthead bream between 4-6lb but only on the worms.fluoro hooklengths and size 4 hooks cast 40 yards with a 2-3oz weight is the way to go.I was extremely surprised at the quality and quantity of the fish and we were smashed by several larger fish right in front of our hotel

Just back from Calella ,and fishing was crap .It was mainly down to the weather as it was blowing a gale off the sea.I didn't get to fish but asked a couple of locals who were float fishing from the beach, they said its better during the summer months and the best spots were further up the coast 1 stop up from Calella by train where there is a stone jetty where the fish will take any thing on a float rig.So you might stand a chance in May and if you catch not at least you will get a suntan, where as all I got was wet!
