Hello Neil, i have fished the River Wansbeck quite regularly, up to the dam, and had some good catches of flounder. Rag and mackerel until the crab starts then crab all summer. 2 hook rigs, size 1 hooks fished on light gear works well. You can fish it about 2 hours either sid of high water. I had a flounder weighing 2lb plus from tight to the dam wall about 5 years ago. As mentioned, flounders, coalies and odd bass from the beach, from the ramp all the way down the beach.

I fish Newbiigin bay quite regularly. I find best towards the south end of the bay, more or less inline with the south end of the breakwater. if you park around beeach terrace and walk down the steps onto the prom anywhere from straight in front to south towards the steps- about 4 light along from the prom end. anywhere further than that and your fishing into rocks at high tide. Best times is two hours after low right the way up and back down again. I've used rag, lug, mussel, mackie, runnydown, squid and all have caught fish, from small flounders and plaice upto large whitting and cod. One evening i saw 6lb, 3lb and 2.5lb cod all taken within 10mins of each other and even heard of bass being caught to 5lb! Its a good place to fish cause your into deepish water with a fairly short cast so your in with a shout. its been a steady venue all winter with regular catches of fish.
